It has been a while since I posted, so here's my first post of 2012 :D
I was a little tired of my blog and kimono related stuff, but now I am back with some new ideas and ready for a new year of kimono adventures. Since money is usually a very important variable when it comes to buying kimono and I am always kinda short on it, I decided this year is going to be a kimono-maintenance-year :P
Hopefully this will work out and no unresistible beauty pops up in auctions. Either way, I do have various kimono and accessories currently unwearable due to different reasons.
A big issue for me is always my height in combination with small kimono and inspired by this thread I found several candidates for some altering tests. One is currently with my grandmother, hopefully going to become some centimetres wider. Some others are planned.
Oh and I do need to work on some new articles of my kimono-guide. There are still some unfinished ones waiting for completion. Same goes for the missing points of the kimono-challange (where many other blogs joined in, while I didn't watch ^^)

Long time no update, my exams took too much time of the few months.
Anyway let's talk about some nicer topics: My most frequently used kimono items.
It's really hard to tell for me which items are the most used one. Compared to the time I have to spent on wearing kimono (sadly they do not live with me but at my parents house) I have too much clothes (of course overall it can never be too much ;-)). But I think I used this obi rather often (at least more than twice):

Not a single other items beats it in times of usage and time in my collection (it was my first obi ever <3). Due to this I won't list any further items, it would be a little random and I am already pretty "random" when it comes to buying kimono. You'd have no chance if you'd want to find a system within it :P

Some "Japantag 2011" Impressions
My impression: I enjoyed listening to the orchestra of Düsseldorf's Japanese International school and "watching" the Watanabe dance group and some other stuff at the small booths along the Rhine-promenade. But I guess it was even more crowded than last year, it was really hard to get to see the Rhine, people (especially crazy ones) everywhere XP
Temperaturewise it was quite refreshing, and moving around in kimono wasn't uncomfortable at all in contrast to the last years, where it was either hot (and crowded) or rainy.
In the End it became to cold for me to stay for the fireworks and waiting alone in the cold isn't too exciting, too. I left rather early and enjoyed watching the fireworks on TV later in the evening (^.^)

This is a really hard question. Basically I love all my kimono, there are only a few pieces I do not like that much (some are going to be sold in the future I guess), but these are to be discussed in one of the the next challenge questions.
What I hold dear for example is my first fukuro obi. It was my first full-width obi and I just love it deeply. I wish I would wear it more often, sadly I didn't found that much possible coordinations with it, yet. It has a lovely black-based tabane noshi pattern with butterflies, phoenixes, kiku etc.
And of course one of my treasures is the furisode my grandmother sew together for me. It's not perfect (some troubles with lining and sleeve-placement), but it's very special to me. The fukuro obi was meant to go with it, when it was bought by the way.
I have several other items, I love very much and would never ever give away, e.g. my hikizuri. But I guess these two items are rather outstanding, because they belong to the foundation of my kimono collection.

It began with my addiction to manga, anime and japanese dramas with evolved into a love for the japanese culture I guess.
I always drooled over these wonderful kimono and eventually found out about maiko and geiko, which wear even more gorgeous kimono. At the same time I wondered why I couldn't find any kimono like this in german online stores, I always only found this crappy bathrobe like tourist yukata, which didn't appeal to me at all.
Finally, after hours of googeling I found sakura yukata market on the internet. It wasn't a german store, but one that would ship internationally and was within my rather small budget. I bought my first komon kimono there along with some very basic kitsuke stuff and an simple hanhaba obi. Well, I didn't knew about the various kimono types back then, but I knew how to differ a kimono from bathrobes by their construction XD
Buying the first one cost me quite some effort, I didn't tell anyone of my family beforehand and I was quite nervous how they would react.
Well, my mother freaked out a little bit when the letter from the customs arrived, she thought I did something illegal XD
But other than that everything came out just fine.
Since then my collection grew quite a bit and is already too big to fit into a closet together with my other clothing. One year ago it moved into it's own closet.
What else happened?
I discovered Immortal Geisha Forums and spent countless hours on browsing through all the threads and informations. Best site ever for information about kimono and the geisha-world!
I'll do some more of these blog-responses along with Airi-san's posting. ^.^

Backyard surprise
I moved in my new apartment just some months ago and didn't get to "tidy up" my tiny backyard yet. It looks rather wild and despite ivy, nettles and wild blackberry stems, there's nothing growing there.
Well, these blackberry stems do carry blackberries now (^.^) Can you spot them in this picture?

Test: Windows Live Writer
I am currently testing if it’s an option for me to post via Windows Live Writer.It’s a desktop tool, making it possible to write blog entries offline and sending it online later.
This Post was done with Windows Live Writer.
Here’s a test picture. It shows “my” kamon. Well, since I am not of japanese ancestry it’s basically the one I freely chose.
“Why such a simple one, when there are so many gorgeous out there?” you may ask.
The answer is simple: If it’s a simpler one, it’s easier to create on kimono (embroidery, painting etc.), in case I’ll ever go do so. AND: I’m completely into the video game “The Legend of Zelda”. Google pictures for it and you’ll immediately know (^.^)

Changed Image Host
The last days I moved all my uploaded pictures from servimg.com to imagehack.com. My upload rate became to high and servimg.com didn't allow to upload multiple pictures at the same time, not very comfortable.
Today I exchanged every single Image-link on my kimono closet and my blog will be next... I used this opportunity to upload some extra pictures on my imageshack account like detail-shots. Furthermore some items were added that I didn't get to photograph until now. It's not much, but enjoy! (^.^)

No more shopping for now!
Last weeks were horrible at least for my wallet. The result:
- 1 maiko hiki
- 1 pair of maiko okobo
- 2 katsura (one already arrived at the customs -.-)
- 2 vintage kimono
- 1 maru obi
- 1 zouri and bag set
- a set of 13 Death Note manga in japanese
- a set of 5 Utena manga in japanese
... I'll have to stay away from eBay, ichiroya and noppin for a while or I'll be broke soon (T.T)
Aaaand I still have some projects in progress, so I should pay attention to them, rather than new stuff. Studying a bit wouldn't hurt either... XP
Concluding: I was pretty active blogging and such this month, but I probably won't be the next ones. If you see me blogging regularly and it's about new stuff, well then you'll now I forgot what I wrote here...

This egg is already one year old, but I didn't get around posting it then. I looked after some children who had an easter egg painting "workshop". Of course I had to make one myself, too. (^.^)

Where's the time...
...to practice kitsuke?
At the moment the university is having it's semester vacations, but of course I have to work for my practical training... Not to mention I need to learn for my exams.
Well at least I found some time to dress up my mannequin and tried out some maiko and geiko kitsuke. Seems that I still do not own something that would go well and so the results weren't satisfying at all.
I'll upload some of the pictures as soon as possible so you may see yourself...

Back to Japan
Well, I would be very happy if it was me going back, but unfortunately it's not.
Two of my packages went back to Japan, 'cause I wasn't able to get them from the customs within 7 days. Damn it, this will cost some extra nerves (and money) to get them back again...
Next time I'll let them ship to my parent's home the customs in this town weren't so strict with the 7 days rule...
